Day 01: Depart Australia (-/-/-)
Fly from Australia and enjoy your overnight flight to the capital of Taiwan, Taipei.
Day 02: Arrive Taipei (-/-/-)
Upon arrival at Taoyuan International Airport, you will be met and transferred to the 5* Howard Plaza Hotel or similar. Use your complimentary MRT ticket to travel and explore the city at your own pace.
Day 03: Taipei – Chiufen Village (B/-/-)
After breakfast you will enjoy a half day city tour. See the Presidential Office Building Chiang Kai, Shek Memorial Hall, the Martyrs Shrine, National Palace Museum, Chinese Temple, and Handicraft Centre. In the afternoon, explore Chiufen Village and its famous tea houses and desserts. Drive through Chinkuashih Village and visit Pitou Cape, Nanya Rock Formations, and the Bay of Two Colours. In the evening meander the famous Shilin Night Market and enjoy fantastic Taiwanese food.
Day 04: Taipei – Nantou – Sun Moon Lake (B/-/-)
Travel to Sun Moon Lake, home to the Thao Tribe, one of the aboriginal tribes of Taiwan. Visit the Wenwu Temple, also known as the ‘Literature Warrior Temple’ as it was dedicated to Confucius and Kuan Ti. Absorb the history at Holy Monk Shrine and Ci En Pagoda. Check in to your hotel and enjoy the natural hot spring at Fleur de Chine Hotel. You can also explore the local walking trails, or cycle, hike, or cruise on the lake.
Day 05: Sun Moon Lake – Kaohsiung (B/-/-)
After breakfast enjoy the drive to Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Monastery, the most sacred place of Buddhism in Southern Taiwan. You will take a walking tour and see the Main Shrine, with its famous Buddha statue. Talk to local monks and nuns, learning about their life and history. An optional Buddhist Vegetarian lunch is available at your cost. Afterwards, drive to the second largest city in Taiwan, Kaohsiung City. Here you will visit the Former British Consulate, Love River, and the Lio Ho Night Market. Stay at the Grand Hi-Lai Hotel or similar.
Day 06: Kaohsiung – Kenting – Taitung (B/-/-)
Take a morning tour to Kenting National Park, and admire the coral lined shore that makes up three sides of the park. You will also visit Eluanbi Lighthouse, Maobitou and its scenic coastal area, as well as Longpan Park. Then continue along the Southern Link Highway to Taitung where you will check in to the Royal Chihpen Taitung. Take advantage of the hotels natural hot spring.
Day 07: Taitung – East Coast Scenic Area – Hualien (B/-/-)
Explore the East Coast National Scenic Area, Taiwan’s ‘last unspoiled land’ which stretches 170km along the East Coast. Continue on the road to Hualien and visit Xiaoyeliu, Sanxiantai, Shitiping Terraced Rocks, and the Marble Factory and Shop. On arrival in Hualien check in to the Silks Place Taroko or similar.
Day 08: Hualien – Taroko Gorge – Taipei (B/-/-)
Travel to the beautiful Taroko National Park by coach. Taroko Gorge has been carved deep in to the plentiful marble of the area, giving it the moniker ‘The Marble Gorge’. Along the winding road, through forest and cliffs, you will see the powerful Liwu River traversing through the marble boulders. On your journey you will visit the Swallow Grotto, Changchun Temple, and Shakadang Trail. Then return to Taipei, stopping at Qingshui Cliff and driving through the nearly 13km long Syue-Shan Tunnel. Arrive around 6pm and check in to the Howard Plaza Hotel or similar for the night.
Day 09: Depart Taipei (B/-/-)
Enjoy the day at your leisure until it is time to transfer to Taipei International Airport for your return flight.
Day 10: Arrive Australia (-/-/-)
Arrive in Australia, dreaming of the incredible Formosa Taiwan!
