There are many fascinating elements that make Kerala a must-see place. In this small tour, we take in the most captivating areas, including the ancient harbour city of Cochin, the beautiful tea gardens and coffee estates of Munnar, the wildlife reserve of Periyar and the wonderful rural village life.
Day 01: Depart Australia – Arrive Cochin (-/-/-)
Fly to Cochin. On arrival meet your tour manager who will assist you with a transfer to the hotel.
Day 02: Cochin (B/L/D)
Visit Fort Cochin. See the Old quarter, The Dutch Cemetery before heading to Fort Kochi’s seaside promenade, and get a glimpse of daily life in Kochi. Head to the waterfront to see The Chinese Fishing Nets, undoubtedly Kochi’s most recognizable, 14th century tool, which is still used today. Also visit local fish markets nearby and Francis Church. Later drive to one of the Kochi’s spice trade centres. Visit the synagogue – the centre for the Jewish community and stop at Mattancherry Dutch Palace. This evening enjoy a Kathakali Dance Performance.
Day 03: Cochin – Munnar (B/L/D)
Munnar Hill station sits at a height of 1600 meters offering a breathtaking view over the green carpet of tea bushes. On arrival, check-in to the hotel and have free time to relax/explore the surrounding area for the afternoon.
Day 04: Munnar – Thekkady (B/L/D)
After breakfast we make the long drive (4hrs+) to Thekkady, en route visiting the Tea Museum opened by the Tata Tea group. The very sound of Thekkady conjures up images of elephants, unending chains of hills and spice scented plantations. Here, in the crisp, cool air of the Western Ghats you will experience the most enchanting time. In the Periyar forests of Thekkady is one of the finest wildlife reserves in India which spread across the entire district of picturesque plantations and hill towns.
Day 05: Thekkady (B/L/D)
We wake up early to experience a cruise on the Lake Periyar, which showcases a kaleidoscope of activities that occur on the banks of the lake and jungle. Return to the hotel for breakfast & lunch at the Hotel before a visit to spice plantation to see them growing cardamom, pepper, coffee, and Vanilla and learn about the various spices that are grown in the region. Following visit, return to your hotel.
Day 06: Thekkady – Alleppey (B/L/D)
Travel to Alleppey. Alleppey is dotted with traditional Kerala houses and bordered by rolling hills on either side. On arrival, board the “Kettuvallam”, traditional rice boats now converted into deluxe accommodation. It is no wonder that Alleppey has been called the Venice of the East. The land is lush with coconut palms and green rice fields. The houseboats are comfortably furnished with an open lounge, bedrooms, bathrooms and a kitchenette. The enchanting backwaters of Alleppey & Kerala reveal some interesting facts about the local life of local village people. Enjoy an afternoon relaxing in the lounging as we drift along, it is amazing to observe how life is lived on the water.
Day 07: Alleppey – Kovalam (B/L/D)
Disembark after breakfast and travel the coastline to the beach town of Kovalam. One of the highlights would be to rejuvenate yourself with the goodness of a Ayurveda herbal massage during your stay.
Day 08: Alleppey – Kovalam (B/L/D)
Enjoy a day at leisure, explore the beaches and town of Kovalam.
Day 09: Depart Trivandrum (B/-/-)
After a leisurely breakfast, the tour finishes by midday with a direct transfer to the Trivandrum international airport to board your homeward flight.
Day 10: Arrive Australia (-/-/-)
Arrive home today.
