This trip covers major highlights of Laos including the UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang with ancient temples and exotic Buddhist culture, the mysterious Plain of Jars, the tiny capital Vientiane and the tranquil 4,000 Islands of Mekong River. Get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the slow pace of Laos.

Day 01: Depart Australia (-/-/-)

Overnight flight to Luang Prabang. Meal on board.

Day 02: Luang Prabang (-/-/-)

Upon arrival, meet our representative at the airport then transfer to check in at Le Sen Boutique Hotel for 3 nights.

Day 03: Luang Prabang (B/L/-)

Visit the Bears Sanctuary, continue to Khuang Si Waterfalls, where water tumbles over multitiered limestone formations into cool and crystal clear pools. In the afternoon visit the impressive temple of Wat Visoun and Wat Mai, visit the National Museum Step up Mount Phousi with spectacular 360-degree views. Evening visit The Night Market offer a lovely variety of handmade textiles crafted by local and hill-tribe people, along with street food, knick-knacks and friendly banter.

Day 04: Luang Prabang (B/L/-)

Visit Wat Xieng Thong, the largest and most splendid temple of Luang Prabang royal city, best known for its impressive Tree of Life mural depicting the Buddhist story. Visit Pak Ou Caves by boat. On return, stop at the villages where handmade Saa paper making and hand weaving textiles happen.

Day 05: Luang Prabang – Phonsavan (B/L/-)

Today you’ll be driven to Xieng Khuang, known for the famous Plains of Jars. The 8-hour drive is very long, but you can make many stops at your liesure, to stretch your legs and take some photographs of local villages, people and scenery. Arrive in Phonsavan and check into Vansana Plain Of Jar hotel for 2 nights.

Day 06: Phonsavan (B/L/-)

The Plains of Jars, an impressive archaeological site where hundreds of large stone jars are scattered across a plateau. Visit Muang Khoun to see the only surviving temple and a hospital.

Day 07: Phonsavan – Vang Vieng (B/L/-)

Travel to Vang Vieng, a journey through stunning landscapes, and you will stop at some villages to interact with the friendly Khmu and Hmong people. The afternoon is free to explore around Vang Vieng. Cycle out around the limestone karsts, or go kayaking, rock climbing or trekking. Overnight stay at Silver Naga Hotel.

Day 08: Vang Vieng – Vientiane (B/L/-)

Visit Tham Jang Cave in the morning. Continue driving to Vientiane with a stop en route at Nam Ngum Lake to board a long tail boat to see its beautiful inlets and talk with local fishermen. Upon arrival at Vientiane, check in at Ansara Boutique Hotel for 2 nights.

Day 09: Vientiane (B/L/-)

Visit the city’s morning market, full of bright colours and exotic aromas. Drive to Buddha Park near the Friendship Bridge. Visit the city’s oldest temples, Wat Sisaket. Wat Phrakeo, View and climb the imposing Patuxay Monument, Explore Pha That Luang, the national monument in Laos.

Day 10: Vientiane – Pakse (B/L/-)

Transfer to Wattay airport for your flight to Pakse. Upon arrival head out to Bolaven Plateau, known for its temperate climate, coffee plantations and mist-shrouded waterfalls. Visit Tad Fane twin waterfalls. Continue to Paksong, ideal for coffee cultivation, particularly Robusta. Enjoy a cup of truly fresh coffee in the coolness of the Bolaven Plateau. Overnight in Athena Pakse.

Day 11: Pakse – Don Khong Island (B/L/-)

You will travel by road to the religious complex of Wat Phu which reflects the Hindu culture of the pre-Buddhist Khmer society that constructed it. You then head out to Don Khong Island, the largest islands of the 4,000 Islands region. Overnight in Pon Arena Hotel.

Day 12: Don Khong Island – Pakse (B/L/-)

After breakfast, you will take a boat trip to Don Khone. See the old French heritage sites the remnants of a locomotive from the first Lao railway. Continue to Liphi Waterfalls marking the end of Lao border to Cambodia. Visit the breathtaking Khone Phapheng Waterfalls known as the “Niagara of the East”. Drive back to Pakse for an overnight stay.

Day 13: Pakse – Australia (B/-/-)

The day is free at your leisure until transfer to Pakse International Airport for your departure flight via Vientiane.

Day 14: Arrive Australia (-/-/-)

Arrive home in the morning.
