This independent tour allows you to experience the ethnically diverse country of Laos. A mixture of French Colonial and ethnic Asian influences are evident throughout the capital city of Vientiane, and the various local communities. The tour will take you through these areas, with visits to the National Museum, many Temples, and also small local villages. You will get to explore the beautiful landscape and see traditional crafts such as paper making and hand weaving.
Day 01: Arrive Luang Prabang (-/-/-)
Upon arrival at Luang Prabang International Airport you will be greeted by your local guide and transferred to the Le Sen Boutique Hotel.
Day 02: Luang Prabang (B/L/-)
After breakfast, visit the Free the Bears Sanctuary then continue to the limestone formations and crystal-clear pools of the Khuang Si Waterfalls. In the afternoon explore Wat Visoun and Wat Mai, then take in the artefacts of the National Museum (closed on Tuesdays) that depict the history of Lao from ancient times through the revolution. Climb to the peak of Mt Phousi and admire its spectacular panoramic views. End the day with a stroll around the Night Market with its local textiles, enjoying street food and meeting the locals.
Day 03: Luang Prabang (B/L/-)
Enjoy a tour of Wat Xiengthong and its traditional architecture before enjoying a cruise upstream the Mekong River with a chance to explore the Pak Ou Caves, filled with golden Buddha statues. On the way back to Luang Prabang visit local villages and see Saa paper making and hand woven textiles.
Day 04: Luang Prabang – Vang Vieng (B/L/-)
After breakfast, enjoy the picturesque journey to Vang Vieng. On the way you will stop to interact with the local Khmu and Hmong people. Enjoy free time in Vang Vieng in the afternoon. If you are feeling adventurous cycle to the limestone karsts, go kayaking, rock climbing or hiking. Spend the night at Silver Naga Vang Vieng.
Day 05: Vang Vieng – Vientiane (B/L/-)
Explore Tham Jang Cave, an old hideout of the local people that was used when invaders arrived in the early 19th Century. Continue driving to Vientiane with a boat ride on Nam Ngum Lake on the way. On the long tail boat you will view the beautiful scenery including islets, as well as meet local fishermen. Upon arrival in Vientiane in the afternoon, check in to the Ansara Boutique Hotel for two nights.
Day 06: Vientiane (B/L/-)
Visit the Morning Market, full of vibrant colour and exotic aromas, then travel to Buddha Park with its collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures near Friendship Bridge on the Mekong River. Explore the thousands of Buddha statues in Wat Sisaket, then visit Vientiane’s ‘Arc de Triumph’ Patuxay Monument. Finish today with a tour of Pha That Luang, Laos’ most important national monument that depicts Lao Sovereignty and the prominent Buddhist religion.
Day 07: Depart Vientiane (B/-/-)
After breakfast, spend the day at leisure until transferring to Wattay International Airport for your next flight.
