Myanmar Tropical Highlights (6 Days)

Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay & Mingun

This six day tour takes you from South to Central Myanmar. You will see some of the thousands of Temples spread throughout the devout Buddhist country, as well as architectural and engineering masterpieces dedicated to worship. With beautiful sunsets and contrasting vibrant and picturesque scenery, this is the perfect tour for an introduction to Myanmar. Deluxe accommodation, comfortable domestic flights, and English speaking local guides, all combine to make this independent tour an experience not to be missed.


Day 01: Arrive Yangon (-/-/D)

Arrive in Yangon, the largest city in Myanmar. Previously known as Rangoon, the city is a cultural mix of colonial and spiritual heritage, resulting in an inspiring commercial and artistic centre. After meeting your local guide, visit local attractions such as Kaba Aye Pagoda, Buddha Tooth Relic Pagoda, and the impressive Chaukhtatgyi Reclining Buddha Image. In the evening, visit the famous Shwedagon Pagoda to view the beautiful sunset. Enjoy dinner and a cultural show at Karaweik Palace Floating Restaurant. Stay overnight in Yangon.

Day 02: Yangon – Bagan (B/L/-)

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport for your flight to Bagan. Your tour in Bagan will include Nyaung Oo Market; Shwezigon Pagoda, one of the original pagodas that was used as a prototype by King Anawrahta; Anada Temple, King Kyansittha’s masterpiece of architecture; Kyansitha Umin; Thatbyinnyu Temple, the highest building on the Bagan Plain; and Htilominlo Temple. In the evening you will visit a cottage where traditional Lacquerware is made; Manuha Temple; Myinkaba Gubyaukgyi Temple, famous for its wall paintings depicting images from the Jataka; and Dhamanyangyi Temple, the largest on the Bagan Plain. In the evening you will admire the stunning sunset from Bupaya or Shwesandaw Pagoda. Stay overnight at the Thazin Garden Hotel in Bagan.

Day 03: Bagan (B/L/-)

After breakfast, your day tour will include the vibrant Nyaung Oo Market; the golden stupa of the Shwezigon Pagoda; the magnificent cave temple of Wetkyi-In Gubyaukgyi; and the delicate plaster carvings and glazed sandstone artworks of the Htilominlo Temple. Then see the four impressive Buddha images in Ananda; Ananda Okkyaung, one of the rare remaining brick monasteries from early Bagan; and Thatbyinnyu, the highest temple in Bagan. Take a horse and carriage ride through the temples and traditional village of Taungbi, admiring Sulamani and Dhammayangyi Temples. Finish the day by watching the stunning sunset from the upper terrace of Myauk Guni Temple.

Day 04: Bagan – Mandalay (B/L/-)

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Mandalay. Your full day tour will include the former capitals of Amarapura, Ava and Sagaing. Starting with the 18th Century capital, Amarapura, home of the country’s largest monastery Mahaganda Yon, you will then see the 200 year old teak U Bein Bridge, followed by a silk weaving workshop. Then take a horse and carriage ride in Ava (the capital from the 14th to 18th Centuries) and explore the Bagaya Monastery and the remnants of the Royal Palace. Enjoying lunch on the way, you will cross the bridge over the Irrawaddy River and continue to Sagaing. With over 600 white painted pagodas and monasteries, Sagaing Hill is often known as the religious centre of the country, with over 3,000 monks residing in the city. Stay overnight in Mandalay.

Day 05: Mandalay – Mingun (B/L/D)

After breakfast, cruise down the Ayeyarwaddy River to Mingun, the location of the world’s largest ringing bell. Sightsee in Mingun and see the famous bell, as well as the Sattwya Pagoda. Travel back to Mandalay by boat, admiring the romantic scenery. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before exploring Myanmar’s cultural capital in depth. See the gold leaf covered Buddha at Mahamuni Pagoda before experiencing the traditional crafts of woodcarving, marble masonry, Kalaga tapestry, and gold leaf making. See Kuthodaw Pagoda and its 729 Buddhist Scriptures enscribed on marble slabs (often referred to as the ‘World’s Biggest Book’), and the Shwenanday Monastery’s detailed woodcarving, before taking in the sunset from Mandalay Hill.

Day 06: Mandalay (B/-/-)

After breakfast, enjoy the day free at your leisure until transferring to the hotel for your next flight.
