You will have a short meeting at 6:00pm to meet your group and Tour Leader, as well as review any necessary trip details.
Day 02: Windhoek – Ghanzi (B/-/D)
Today will have an early start, as you have a long drive today to Ghanzi. Your journey will take you east, crossing the border in to Botswana and the heart of the Kalahari Desert. In Ghanzi you will be welcomed by the local San (Bushmen) who are eager to share their ancient lifestyle and culture with visitors. Enjoy the evening watching a traditional dance ritual around a campfire, and marvel at the stunning starry sky* (optional activity, surcharges apply).
Drive Time: 9 hours
Day 03: Ghanzi – Maun (B/-/D)
Take a morning walk with the San and learn about their impressive survival skills that have been passed on from generation to generation. You will then continue on your journey to Maun, arriving after lunch. The afternoon is free at your leisure, or you can take in a birds eye view of the spectacular Okavango Delta from above on an optional flight! You will have the opportunity to see the intricate system of channels and islands that make up the delta, as well has hopefully spot herds of elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and hippos* (surcharges apply).
Drive Time: 5 hours
Day 04: Maun (B/L/D)
Enjoy the day exploring the Okavango Delta. Depending on the water levels of the Delta, and the time of year, you will either explore by Mokoro (traditional boat) or 4×4 Game Drive vehicle. The Delta is usually at its lowest point from December to May.
If travelling by Mokoro, you will be seated in a dug out, two person canoe, that is controlled by a “poler” at the back of the boat. Your tranquil journey will take you deeper in to the Delta, and you will have plenty of photographic opportunities. Stop at an island for lunch and to enjoy a nature walk, before returning to Maun by Mokoro as the sunsets.
During the dry season or when water levels are too low, you will have the opportunity to explore the Blackpools and Xini Lagoon areas of Moremi Game Reserve by 4×4 Vehicle. 50km from Maun, the Reserve is bursting with wildlife and interesting and unique landscapes. You will enjoy lunch along the way, and have the opportunity to photograph elephants, buffalo, hippos, lions, and hopefully even leopards!
MW Tours is deeply committed to protecting the environment and we make sure that our tours reflect this commitment. During our years of conducting tours in the Delta, we have experienced that the human footprint being left behind have a negative effect on this extremely sensitive eco system therefore, we do not include an overnight experience in the Delta. We believe that our included Delta experience gives the same adventure with less impact on the environment.
Day 05: Maun – Elephant Sands (B/-/D)
Travel to one of the most popular watering holes in Africa, Elephant Sands. Here you are usually lucky enough to see wildlife including elephants, antelope, and wild dogs walk through the campsite searching for fresh water. You may even have the opportunity to see them up close as they walk past your accommodation!
Drive Time: 6 hours
Day 06: Elephant Sands – Chobe River (Kasane) (B/-/D)
